Lucy Roper’s weekly Built Environment blog: What building inspires you?

張貼於: 2019-01-31

Each week, UCEM Information Governance Manager, Lucy Roper points us in the direction of interesting stories from the Built Environment.

This week, Lucy focuses on inspiring Built Environment projects and asks readers: what buildings inspire you? You may even wish to reflect upon projects you’ve been involved in and we would love to see your photos on this theme for our #UCEMIDidThat centenary social media campaign!

Bloomberg’s London marvel

The RIBA Awards recognise the best new architecture in the UK, picking out the best in different regions as well as overall winners on a yearly basis.

The London category is perhaps the most hotly contested of all the regions. Last year, one of the London Award winners was Bloomberg for its new office and RIBA highlights the key details about the project, as well as the people and contractors involved in making it a success.

Sticking with RIBA, why not take a moment to feast your eyes on the other regional award-winners from 2018?

London’s newest stadium nearing completion

Constructing new sports stadiums in London is challenging. For verification of this statement, ask the FA about the rebuilding of Wembley Stadium and add to that list Tottenham Hotspur FC.

Countless delays have been forced upon the North London football club, invoking the wrath of staff and fans alike but, like Wembley, once it finally is operational, the capital will have something rather special in its armoury.

The new stadium will have a retractable pitch, as demonstrated in a video and explained in the accompanying article by Construction Manager, and will include a visitor attraction allowing people to climb the exterior of the stadium up to 40m high reports the BBC.

Happily for Spurs fans, the latest Construction Manager story on the stadium includes a video and report about the final tower crane coming down, suggesting the wait is nearly over!

From football to swimming!

Having delved into the world of football, this appears to be an appropriate segue to look at inspirational construction in swimming – my passion away from work!

For those of us who enjoy frequently dipping into water, this Architectural Digest article showcasing 18 of the most beautiful indoor pools from around the world is a visual delight!

The only thing better than the article would be actually swimming in these wondrous. Now where’s my bucket list…

Scottish investment in Qatar

Away from inspiring construction for hosting leisure pursuits, Built Environment projects support developments in all sectors. Higher education institutions in the UK are increasingly looking to support international students, much like UCEM, with Global Construction Review reporting on the University of Aberdeen’s £100m campus in Qatar.

What Built Environment projects inspire you? Why don’t you tell us on Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn, or email me directly.
