Lucy Roper’s weekly Built Environment news round-up: December 6, 2018

張貼於: 2018-12-06

Each week, UCEM Information Governance Manager, Lucy Roper reports on the latest news stories from the Built Environment.

This week, Lucy provides a personal update on a cause she supported in the workplace on Monday and diverts us to two construction stories involving space exploration and an end-of-year industry review…

Purple pride

I wore purple on Monday in support of the United Nations’ International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD). Every year since 1992, disabled people, organisations and governments across the world celebrate this day in a variety of ways and this year’s theme led to the wearing of purple by participants; but why purple? The National Association of Disabled Staff Networks provides the background.

From hard hats to astronaut suits?

Off-site construction remains a hot topic in the industry but what about off-Earth construction? On page 22 of the latest RICS Modus magazine, Stephen Cousins reports on the work being done by the construction industry to impact upon possible settlements on Mars. This begs the question: will aliens be adequately housed before the UK government solves its housing crisis?! Far out indeed…

A strong year for the construction industry

Returning back down to Earth, KHL have released a video review looking back on the year for the construction industry, with forecasts for 2019 included too.
