Lucy Roper’s weekly Built Environment news round-up: January 17, 2019

張貼於: 2019-01-17

Each week, UCEM Information Governance Manager, Lucy Roper reports on the latest news stories from the Built Environment.

This week, Lucy moves away from her dip into the latest from the Built Environment and focuses on UCEM’s most recent form of degree delivery – apprenticeships…

Why apprenticeships?

The benefits of choosing the apprenticeship route from school are clear but don’t let me be the one to pass on the message as this apprentice presents the argument persuasively and succinctly in this BBC article.

Support for employers

Deciding to employ an apprentice or apprentices requires a fair degree of consideration but financial support is available for all England-based employers courtesy of the apprenticeship levy.

If you are considering hiring apprentices but have questions or concerns about the levy and how it impacts or can benefit your organisation, this handy guide from FE News is a useful myth-buster.

UCEM apprentice case study

If you’re a business or potential apprentice within the Built Environment, you may wish to know how UCEM can support your apprentice or your apprenticeship delivery.

The final edition of RICS Modus in 2018 included a feature on apprentices (page 26 onwards) which saw UCEM apprentice, Adelle Rhule-Martin open up about her experience with the institution.

Further apprentice testimonials can be found on this website in the Testimonials and Blog section.

Recent apprenticeship developments at UCEM

If you’re an employer interested in hiring an apprentice, you may be wondering how to facilitate the learning part of the apprenticeship. As a first step, why not browse our employer brochure? Relevant contacts are also included on this page.

UCEM is continuing to develop its apprenticeship offering and recently took its first step in catering for Facilities Management (FM) apprenticeships. When speaking positively about employing apprentices, it comes from a position of experience as we currently employ four apprentices, two of whom have the distinction of being the first to complete their apprenticeships with the institution!
