What is the solution to the Built Environment skills crisis?

This question was posed to a group of industry experts at the Built Environment Skills Summit towards the end of last year. Key representatives from organisations such as RICS, CIOB, BRE, the Cabinet Office and CITB met at UCEM’s office for a day of presentations, workshops and discussions.
Attendees were asked three questions while at the Skills Summit:
1. Why do you think the Built Environment Skills Summit is important?
2. What are the major skills issues within the Built Environment?
3. What solutions would you like to see put in place to improve Built Environment skills?
Some of their answers are touched upon in this video:
So, what happens now?
An immediate action is to establish a model for a holistic Built Environment skills body. This will recognise the Government’s white paper on Industrial Strategy, in particular referencing the Skills for the Future element. The intention is that this body will be formed from existing and emerging organisations and will play a critical role to enable communication between the four major stakeholders: Government, Education Providers, Professional Bodies and Industry.
