They hold responsibility for a project’s success and play a crucial role in organising and planning complex work, all while ensuring rigorous safety standards and procedures are adhered to. Their expertise applies to a wide range of projects, from simple residential dwellings to complex building projects.
Our MSc Construction Management programme will equip you with both the practical skills and the academic preparation you need for a career in construction. This industry-recognised qualification explores the entire construction process, from conception through to construction and operation, and will give you the skills to transform the client’s brief into a physical reality.
Hong Kong delivery from September 2026
From September 2026, the University is adapting select programmes to introduce a blended learning model*, tailored to the needs of career-focused professionals in Hong Kong and Macau.
Students will benefit from the flexibility of e-learning through online lectures and reading materials, allowing them to study the international curriculum in their own time. Foundation is then strengthened through two in-person weekend assessment support tutorials for specific modules, held at the University’s designated learning centre.
During these sessions, students will meet and receive guidance on their assessments from lecturers and industry practitioners who understand the local context. They can also discuss ideas with fellow students and analyse real-world examples specific to Hong Kong.
With this blended learning model, we offer a postgraduate experience that accommodates demanding careers while still providing a robust and supportive learning experience.

To launch a career in this field, construction managers need to be knowledgeable, highly trained, and possess a suite of leadership and management skills. This flexible, internationally-recognised blended programme is designed to provide you with a platform to enhance these competencies and move into a more senior position in construction management. Â
This conversion MSc Construction Management programme enables graduates from disciplines unrelated to construction and real estate to obtain an accredited degree.Â

Structure
Modules you will study
You will study 8 modules over 2 years. The modules will be delivered through two modes: fully online teaching materials and webinars by UK-based lecturers via VLE (green); other than that, you will be supported by local face-to-face, assessment-focused tutorials (red).
Autumn
Project Management in the Built Environment
Explore the strategic and organisational challenges of project management, focusing on the management of construction projects. Develop the variance of skillsets and professional disciplines required to manage, plan, and control the safe and compliant delivery of built assets, in the context of key project drivers.
Learn the principles of construction technology, including modern, innovative and traditional construction. Explore assessment methods and relevant codes and regulations within the framework of a sustainable and inclusive built environment.
Gain an introduction into English law, the legal system and the law making process, along with the law of contract and tort. Develop an understanding of legislation appropriate to the project such as planning, building regulations and health and safety legislation. Alternative dispute resolution is also covered.
This module examines the principles and applications of project procurement. It also develops your understanding of the effects of risk allocation on procurement choice and the impact this has on subsequent phases of the project cycle.
Develop an understanding of the skills associated with facilities management, and the planning, controlling and maintenance of built assets. Build your understanding of the theory of facilities management, and apply your existing knowledge of construction management and technology from earlier modules.
Contract Administration and Practice
Examine Joint Contracts Tribunal (JCT), New Engineering Contract (NEC) and International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC) Standard Forms of construction contracts to enable you to interpret and analyse the key provisions for effective control and management of a contract.
Gain an appreciation of the global construction arena and enhance your ability to recognise, analyse and develop many aspects of international construction, from health and safety and culture to business, resource management and constructing in tropical climates.
Build your research skills within the context of the built environment with the opportunity to conduct a self-directed research project that reflects the culmination of your studies. The topics selected are expected to reflect the current and critical issues that concern the built environment.

How does this course align?
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is the United Nation’s economic, social and environmental plan to achieve sustainable development. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are central to this ambition, and must therefore be a critical part of built environment curriculums.
We are currently undergoing an evaluation of how SDGs relate to modules. This will be updated shortly.

FRICS FCIOB CInstCES
Daniel is a Chartered Engineer, Fellow of RICS, CIOB, and CInstCES, with over 35 years of experience in project management and quantity surveying of the Built Environment. As Director of Darwin Construction Management Consultancy and Finance Director of Union Construction (Group), he specialises in modular integrated construction (MiC), transitional housing, and complex fit-outs in Hong Kong. Daniel’s expertise spans cost estimation, contract administration, claims resolution, and arbitration, backed by an MSc in Construction Management from the University of Bath, United Kingdom. He also serves as a guest lecturer and Programme Validation Panel Member for the Hong Kong Institute of Construction Managers and guest lecturer of the University of Macau, shaping future surveying and construction professionals.

Time commitment and study breakdown
Studying two modules per semester requires an expected time commitment of 15-20 hours per week. If you study only one module per semester, the weekly time commitment will be less, depending on the module’s credit size. Most modules are typically 20 credits.

Assessments will vary between modules and you can check the module descriptors for more details.
